Two narratives run through it: the mother’s childhood tale and Cumming’s own pursuit of the truth. On Chapel Sands is a book of mystery and memoir. Cumming began with a few criss-crossing lives in this fraction of English coast - the postman, the grocer, the elusive baker - but soon her search spread right out across the globe as she discovered just how many lives were affected by what happened that day on the beach - including her own. ![]() Cumming grew up enthralled by her mother’s strange tales of life in a seaside hamlet of the 1930s, and of the secrets and lies perpetuated by a whole community. The girl became an artist and had a daughter, art writer Laura Cumming. It was another 50 years before she even learned of the kidnap. The child remembered nothing of these events and nobody ever spoke of them at home. Five agonising days went by before she was found in a nearby village. In the autumn of 1929, a small child was kidnapped from a Lincolnshire beach. ![]() Uncovering the mystery of her mother’s disappearance as a child: Laura Cumming, prize-winning author and art critic, takes a closer look at her family story. ![]()

But the real joy – and first taste of independence – came afterward when our mom would let us wander the aisles choosing new books to check out. What I do remember are regular trips to the public library in Merrillville, Indiana, with my mom and twin sister. We’d enter the book fortress and make a beeline for the children’s floor upstairs. I grew up in the era of Toys R Us, when Geoffrey the Giraffe beckoned kids from across the parking lot or through the television screen to a wonderland that seemed to offer every toy imaginable. Yet, other than a vague recollection of toy-filled aisles, I have no specific memory attached to that store. ![]() 5/22/2023 0 Comments The witcher the last wish pages![]() ![]() Now there’s a Netflix show with none other than Henry Cavill (I like him □ ) and that gave me the needed push to finally check out the first – in publication order – of the books. I had known about the Witcher for many years and I watched my boyfriend play some of the game (The Witcher III) but I had always planned to read the books before I checked out the games for myself. Note that, while The Last Wish was published after The Sword of Destiny, the stories contained in The Last Wish take place first chronologically, and many of the individual stories were published before The Sword of Destiny. ![]() But not everything monstrous-looking is evil and not everything fair is good… and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth.Ī collection of short stories introducing Geralt of Rivia, to be followed by the first novel in the actual series, The Blood of Elves. (And to an extent, it turns out, London Spy is a very loaded title. ![]() ![]() London Spy devotes its first 30 minutes to an impeccably developed love story - to the extent that viewers might find themselves wondering if the show’s title is merely symbolic. A great deal of this had to do with the series - by British novelist Tom Rob Smith - taking its time at the beginning. I was, to put it lightly, floored by the first two episodes made available to the American press in advance of Thursday’s US premiere. So when you hear that a show titled London Spy is coming to BBC America, you might assume that its straightforward title is a nod to Bond’s legacy of camp you might not expect an affecting, upsetting, nuanced series whose key act of espionage is less about getting to the bottom of an international affair than it is about getting to the bottom of a very personal one. James Bond is the archetypal British spy, the one name that description brings to mind. ![]() 5/22/2023 0 Comments Heaven is for real author![]() What helped convince Todd of the same thing? Todd meant that people may be more afraid that there is a heaven because that means that we must live our lives according to God's commandments and teachings or we will not go to heaven. Colton said that he saw Sonja's lost baby in heaven. Name one difference between the book and the movie. Where were Jesus's "markers"? AND what exactly where these "markers"?
